    Elaphiti Islands

Tranquil Adriatic Archipelago With Charming Villages

The Elafiti (or Elaphiti) Islands are a sun-drenched archipelago of 13 islands—only three of which are inhabited—scattered like emeralds in the Adriatic Sea just northwest of Dubrovnik. Often described as the "guardians of the coast," they offer a serene, timeless escape from the bustle of the mainland.

As the closest island to Dubrovnik, Koločep is a car-free sanctuary draped in thick pine forests, olive groves, and citrus gardens. Its dramatic limestone cliffs are honeycombed with sea caves, most notably the Blue Cave, where sunlight refracts off the sandy bottom to create a surreal, glowing neon-blue interior.

Lopud is famous for hosting Šunj Beach, one of the very few natural sandy beaches in Croatia. The bay is remarkably shallow—you can wade out for nearly 100 meters—making the water exceptionally warm and clear. The island is also home to a 15th-century Franciscan monastery and exotic botanical gardens.

The largest and most historically rich, Šipan holds a Guinness World Record for the highest number of olive trees per square meter. It was the preferred summer retreat for Dubrovnik’s 16th-century aristocracy, leaving behind a legacy of grand Renaissance villas and fortified palaces (like the Skočibuha Castle) nestled among vineyards
