Both Sunreef and Lagoon are well-known brands in the yachting industry, but which one is better? We examine thier differences in terms of design, construction, and price range.

Design and Overall Look: Sunreef catamarans emerged on the market as 'new breed' of catamarans and are known for their sleek and modern designs, often featuring a contemporary look with spacious interiors and luxurious finishes. On the other hand, Lagoon catamarans have been around for a while and their focus is on providing comfortable living spaces and a more traditional look,  expect the new Lagoon 77 that has a more luxury and contemporary look.

Construction: Sunreef catamarans are custom-built (with a minimum 2 years waiting list for building one) and known for their high-end construction using advanced materials like fiberglass which makes them lightweight and durable. Suneef catamarans are also diverting thier attention to eco friendly models with a brand new Sunreef 80 launched this summer (Apollo, Sunreef 80 Eco was at a display in Cannes this summer). On the other hand, Lagoon catamarans are mass-produced (although you might select certain materials and equipment after the build) and built also with fiberglass, which gives them a balance between durability and affordability.

Size and Range: Sunreef offers a range of both sailing and motor catamarans from 40 to 120 feet, with larger models suitable for luxury charter or private use. Lagoon catamarans also produces motor and sailing catamarans that range from 38 to 78 feet, catering to both cruising and charter needs.

Price: Sunreef catamarans are generally more expensive due to their custom-built nature, high-end finishes, and use of advanced materials. Lagoon catamarans are more affordable by comparison, making them a popular choice for recreational sailors. A brand new Sunreef 80 Eco will cost around 9 mil Euros, a brand new Lagoon 77 will set you back around 6.6 mil Euros.

Performance: Sunreef catamarans are often praised for their superior sailing performance, thanks to their lightweight construction and efficient hull designs. Lagoon catamarans prioritize comfort and stability over speed, suitable for leisurely cruising.

Ultimately, the choice between a Sunreef and Lagoon catamaran depends on your preferences, budget, and intended use. Sunreef catamarans are ideal for those seeking luxury, customization, and high-performance sailing, while Lagoon catamarans offer a balance between comfort, affordability, and ease of use.
