In this blog, we compare Greece sailing holidays versus Croatia sailing holidays. With 6000 islands to explore, Greece is the most famous island-hopping country in Europe. Croatia features around 1200 islands quite concentrated and easily accessed. Greece is a fascinating destination with a long history and full of archaeological finds and ruins, it is the cradle of European civilisation, Croatia is a relatively young country but still full of historical sites such as the 3rd century Dalmatian Palace. Greek islands feature stunning white sandy beaches, dramatic ocean cliffs and crystal clear waters. Croatia islands feature pebble beaches and crystal clear waters.  Both countries share a fondness for flavor – seafood plucked right out of the sea, fresh produce and local herbs grown in the garden, olive oil pressed on nearby olive groves, a variety of organic meats, and superb wines.  Many of these delights are still produced on family-run farms and vineyards and by local fisherman who take pride in their work. So what can expect from a yacht charter in Greece and Croatia? Croatia is a sailing destination for beginners, the sea is relatively calm and the winds during the summer are Maestral (a light breeze that blows in the early afternoon ideal for sailing), Bura (quite strong but mainly during the winter) and Jugo (confuses the sea). Greece on the other hand is not a sailing destination for a fair weather sailor. Meltemi, the local wind is quite strong and can be very dangerous. It blows during the summer and it can cause major disruptions.

One can easily spend two weeks exploring the islands. If you would consider a yacht charter in Greece,  Greece is not a sailing destination for a fair weather sailor. The local wind (Meltemi) that blows from May to September can be dangerous and it is not to be taken lightly.
