After a year of isolation confined to four walls the 2021 might be a year of yearning for open spaces, remote areas and being one with the nature. You might wonder where you can travel and what to do? One trend that is picking up an interest for 2021 is yachting. Here we give a bit of history and explain what yachting is about.
Is yachting a sport or a lifestyle?
Well, a bit of both. Competitive sailing like the Volvo Ocean Racing or the Clipper Round the World Yacht race are most certainly sport related. Sailing as a sport developed under encouragement from the British Royal Navy wishing to improve the seamanship of officers. The lifestyle concept has been very much connected with the pursuit of health and enjoyment, it became fashionable in the 19th century to set off into the natural world for adventure. It was quite easy to imagine the immense possibilities of sailing, which provided a means of getting away from the polluted air of the cities and pursuing a healthy activity in full contact with the elements. The yachts got bigger since the 19th century but the concept remains the same. The yachts offer a full freedom, you can set off when you want, for a destination of your choice and when the weather conditions suit you.
Is it a yacht or a boat?
In the southern Europe 'yacht' refers to any boat that is large and expensive, British on the other hand, consider all sailing boats yachts. Until the first half of the 20th century, yachting was more or less the prerogative of the aristocracy and the affluent middle classes. This has not been the case for some time as boats become more affordable due to mass production. Today, there is a huge selection of the yachts to choose from. From traditional monohulls, catamarans, sloops, ketches, schooners, gulets, motor yachts, super yachts, exploration yachts, riverboats etc.
Crewed vs. bareboat?
There are two options when comes to yacht charters. Bare boat charters are for those with the sailing qualifications, on the other hand if you do not have a sailing qualfication you take crew with you. Our yachts are all fully crewed.
What is like to be on a yacht?
Think about a floating villa. Depending of the size of your party, you can charter a 2 to 20 cabins yacht. You have your own room i.e. cabin that offers the same standard as a hotel room. Linen, towels, beach towels, hair dryer, toiletries and AC are all provided. All cabins are en-suite. Breakfast and lunch are normally served on the boat (you have your own chef), and you take dinners on shore or you can stay on the yacht if you wish so. During the day, the crew sail the yacht, whilst you are relaxing on the sun deck perhaps reading your favourite book, or swimming whilst moored in a bay. There are plenty of hidden bays or small ports you can moor at. You can also try a range of water sport such as Jet Ski, Water ski, SUP, kayak etc. When you wish to stretch your legs on the land, you simply stop and disembark.
Why Adriatic?
The sea is flat and clam and it is ideal for the first time charterers. The islands are quite close to each other so you never sail more than 2 to 3 hours per day. Venetian architecture, quaint island villages, azure blue seas, green bays and islets are some of the wonders that await those who charter in the Adriatic waters.
