• VAT on Croatian Yacht Charters

  • This is a summary of the VAT on Croatian Yacht Charters. If you need more detailed information or assistance with chartering in Croatia please do get in touch.

All commercial yachts registered in Croatia and EU will be available for charters in the Adriatic. However, EU commercial yachts will be required to either use a local charter company or set up a company in Croatia. Please get in touch for more info.

Non EU commercial yachts above 40m will be required to apply for a charter licence (approx.. cost 300 to 400 Euro) that is valid for one year if they consider spending the summer in the Adriatic. Please bear in mind the local authorities have limited the number of the licenses issued to 200. It might take a few months to apply for these licences so allow enough time.

Non EU commercial yachts under 40m will not be able to charter out of Croatia. The best way around this is to arrange one way from Kotor to Split or any other point in Croatia.

The VAT applicable on yacht charters is 13%. Unfortunately the Croatian Authorities rarely get things right at the first instance, hence there is still a lot of confusion whether the 13% VAT will be applicable to yachts entering
Croatia from another EU country or via Montenegro and who will be responsible for collecting VAT on behalf of commercial yachts.

Lastly, private yacht owners will be able to embark and disembark in Croatia irrespective of the flag. However, if the owner is not present on the yacht the Captain will need to sign and stamp the crew list that contains the names of the guests as well as the time spend on board.
