The world powerboat race’s opening round called the "Croatian Grand Prix of the Sea" will be held during the 12th Croatia Boat Show in Split. Split will be the first host of a Powerboat P1 race next year, followed by Ukraine, Turkey, Portugal, Sweden and Italy.

Croatia took an amazing eight gold medals at the Decanter World Wine Award this year, and of the 35 entries for Sherry, every wine won a medal, with Sherry taking the International Trophy for Dry Fortifed Over £10. Easy Jet introduce flights to Dubrovnik, May 09
Easy Jet
announced the launch of a new route from London Gatwick to Dubrovnik. Flights started on 1st May 2009 and will operate four times weekly (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday). At the time of writing one-way fares of £34 including taxes are available on a variety of dates in May and June. Not surprisingly, cheap fares in July and August are a little harder to come by, but early bookers should still be able to find some reasonable deals.

According to the research undertaken by the national tourist board The Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia's most popular tourist attraction. The national park was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979 and it is the most visited place in Croatia.

Croatia among top three non-EU travel destinations for EU residents, April 2009

The Eurobarometer program is a series of surveys regularly performed on behalf of the European Commission since 1973. It produces reports of public opinion of certain issues relating to the European Union across the member states. A total of 48 percent of EU residents plan to spend their summer vacation this year in their own country. The most attractive destinations are Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Greece and Great Britain. Outside the EU, the most visited are the United States, Turkey and Croatia, according to the survey that the European Commissioner published last week.

Croatia recognizes certificates for operating vessels by nine more countries, April 2009
Alongside Hungary and Slovakia, with which an agreement on the mutual recognition of certificates was signed earlier, boaters from Austria, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Norway and Canada can now sail in Croatian waters if they possess one of the 35 authorized certificates issued by their countries. The ministry added that the recognized certificates or diplomas for operating boats and yachts were in accordance with Croatian regulations. This is expected to facilitate vessel renting in Croatia without bringing navigation safety into question.

Spain's Conde Nast Traveller awards Croatian islands as most beautiful, March 2009
The readers of the prestigious magazine voted in about 15 categories, including best city hotel, non-city hotel, best resort, best spa, best destination, most beautiful city, most beautiful island, and best air carrier. The islands of the Croatian Adriatic were voted the most beautiful in the world, despite strong competition from the Greek islands, Corsica, Puerto Rico and Mauritius.

Croatian Government introduces a tourist tax for boats charterers
From 01st January 2009, all visitors who charter a boat in Croatia will be subject to paying 1 Euro per person per day for their stay on the boat. The tax fees will be collected from the marinas and ports.
